Aberdeen have secured the services of Nigerian defensive midfielder Afeez Aremu, aged 26, from German second-tier club Kaiserslautern. The transfer was confirmed on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
The Scottish Premiership club reportedly paid a fee of around £250,000 for Aremu, who will sign a long-term contract at Pittodrie. His previous contract with Kaiserslautern was due to expire in summer 2026.
Aremu had limited playing time this season, making eight appearances for Kaiserslautern, with five of those as a starter. Aberdeen's sporting director, Lutz Pfannenstiel, had identified a defensive midfielder as a key priority for the January transfer window.
Described as a 'physical and robust' player, Aremu becomes Aberdeen's fifth signing of the current transfer window. He had also attracted interest from clubs in Israel, Poland, and Turkey.
