Celtic Query SPFL Over Aberdeen Match Postponement

Football

Celtic have approached the SPFL to question the process followed for the recent postponement of their Premiership game against Aberdeen.

Celtic have formally queried the Scottish Professional Football League regarding the late postponement of their Premiership fixture against Aberdeen. The match, scheduled for Wednesday, February 4, at Pittodrie, was called off around 4pm, just four hours before its 8pm kick-off. A referee conducted a pitch inspection, deeming the surface unplayable due to a waterlogged condition. This was attributed to prolonged heavy rain in the Aberdeen area. Aberdeen had contacted the SPFL earlier with concerns about the pitch's condition. Celtic now seeks clarification from the league on whether the correct procedures were adhered to for the decision to postpone the game so close to kick-off. The late call meant significant disruption for travelling supporters and the club's preparations. The postponement also meant Celtic missed an opportunity to reduce the points gap to league leaders Hearts. Another Premiership fixture, Dundee versus Motherwell, also fell victim to the weather on the same day.
