Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has stated that captain Cristian Romero is a "leader" but needs to learn following the defender's second sending-off of the season. Romero received a straight red card during Tottenham's 2-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, 7 February.
The Argentine centre-back was dismissed in the 29th minute for a challenge on Casemiro. This red card means Romero will serve a four-match suspension. It marks his sixth red card in all competitions since joining Spurs in August 2021.
Despite the disciplinary concerns, Frank confirmed he would not consider stripping Romero of the captaincy. The head coach also revealed Romero apologised to his teammates in the dressing room after the match. Frank emphasised Romero's importance to the team when performing at his best.
