Leicester City sacked manager Marti Cifuentes on Sunday, 25 January 2026, following a poor run of form. The Spaniard, who joined from QPR, was appointed last summer on a three-year contract but his tenure lasted only six months. The club currently sits 14th in the Championship table, significantly below their initial aim for an immediate return to the Premier League.
The decision came after Leicester suffered a 2-1 home defeat to struggling Oxford United on Saturday. This result meant the Foxes had won only one of their last five matches, leading to "inconsistent results and particularly poor recent performances". Owner Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha stated it was a "difficult decision" made to "improve performances and results" and act in the club's best interests. Former player and first-team coach Andy King will take interim charge of the side.
