Liverpool have finalised a deal to sign French defender Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes for a reported £60m. The twenty-year-old centre-back will remain with the Ligue 1 club for the rest of the current season before moving to Anfield in the summer of 2026.
The transfer fee comprises an initial £55m, with an additional £5m in performance-related add-ons. Liverpool reportedly beat Premier League rivals Chelsea to Jacquet's signature, who had also held talks with the player.
Jacquet is considered one of Europe's most promising young defenders, making eighteen appearances for Rennes this season. He possesses strong physical and mental attributes, excelling in various defensive systems. The player has been described as "strong and smart", leading to comparisons with Virgil van Dijk. Jacquet himself has expressed admiration for Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
