Millwall manager Alex Neil believes new signing Barry Bannan will provide crucial quality for their Premier League promotion push.

Millwall have completed the signing of experienced midfielder Barry Bannan from Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday. The 36-year-old joined the Lions on an eighteen-month contract, with the transfer officially announced on January 28, 2026. Millwall manager Alex Neil stated Bannan will bring "extra quality" to the squad as they target promotion to the Premier League.

Director of football Steve Gallen also praised Bannan, highlighting his intelligence, adaptability, and significant big-game experience. Bannan spent a decade at Hillsborough, making an impressive 477 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday across all competitions. He scored 38 goals and provided 73 assists during his time with the Owls.

Millwall currently occupy a play-off position in the Championship, sitting fifth in the table as of January 26. The club hopes Bannan's arrival will bolster their challenge for a top-six finish and potential Premier League return. Bannan is available for selection for Millwall's upcoming home match against Sheffield United this Saturday.
