Napoli may take disciplinary action against striker Romelu Lukaku after he failed to return to the club following international duty.

The Italian club confirmed on Tuesday that Romelu Lukaku did not report for scheduled training sessions. In an official statement, Napoli said the striker did not respond to a call to return following the international break. The club reserves the right to evaluate disciplinary measures and determine if the player will continue to train with the first team for an indefinite period, according to Punch Newspapers.

Lukaku remained in Belgium to undergo private rehabilitation for a hip flexor injury despite club orders to return to Naples. The 32-year-old previously withdrew from the Belgium national team squad to focus on his fitness. Per OneFootball, Napoli's legal team is currently scrutinising the situation to determine if further contractual penalties are required.

Lukaku defended his actions on social media, stating he is working with trusted medical staff to return at 100 percent fitness, according to beIN SPORTS. Napoli, who sit third in Serie A, are scheduled to host AC Milan on April 6. The striker has managed one league goal in five substitute appearances during an injury-hit season.
