Palace Make Two Record Signings Amidst January Turmoil

Football

Crystal Palace completed two club-record signings in January, but a challenging month saw key departures and a managerial announcement.

Crystal Palace completed two club-record signings during the January transfer window. Striker Jorgen Strand Larsen joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £48 million on deadline day, becoming the club's new record acquisition. This followed the earlier £35 million arrival of Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the month also brought significant challenges for the Eagles. Jean-Philippe Mateta's proposed £30 million transfer to AC Milan collapsed due to medical reasons, meaning he remained at Selhurst Park. Additionally, a reported £20 million move for Everton winger Dwight McNeil failed as paperwork was not submitted in time. Captain Marc Guehi also departed, joining Manchester City.

The club endured a difficult January, including an FA Cup defeat to non-league Macclesfield. Manager Oliver Glasner confirmed he would leave at the season's end, with reports suggesting an earlier departure was possible due to recent results. Palace's form has been poor, with the club winless since early December.
