Former AC Milan and Brazil forward Alexandre Pato is a member of a consortium interested in taking over Colchester United. The 36-year-old, who retired from playing in 2025, has held discussions with current Colchester owner Robbie Cowling regarding potential investment. Pato enjoyed an illustrious career, winning the Serie A title with Milan in 2011 and the Copa Libertadores in 2006.
Mr Cowling has been actively seeking a buyer for the League Two club since May, following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season. Pato was reportedly among a group of visitors at the JobServe Community Stadium for Colchester's recent match against Fleetwood Town, alongside Colchester MP Pam Cox.
Previous talks with a United States-based consortium, Lightwell Sports Group, concluded without an agreement in June. The club stated that despite mutual goodwill and a constructive spirit, an agreement for a change of ownership could not be reached at that time. Cowling's long-term intention to sell the club remains unchanged.
