Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero received a straight red card during his side's 2-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday. The defender was dismissed in the 29th minute for a reckless challenge on United's Casemiro.
This incident marked Romero's second sending-off of the season and his sixth for Spurs across all competitions since August 2021. The red card resulted in a four-match suspension for the Argentine centre-back.
Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank described Romero's week as a "perfect storm" following the match. Earlier, Romero had publicly criticised the club's transfer policy and squad depth on social media, labelling it "disgraceful" after a 2-2 draw with Manchester City. Frank had defended his captain, stating the matter was resolved internally.
Manchester United secured their victory with goals from Bryan Mbeumo in the 38th minute and Bruno Fernandes in the 81st minute.
