Championship club Sheffield United are in advanced discussions to secure Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City on a loan deal. The move is expected to be finalised on transfer deadline day, February 2, 2026. Phillips has seen very limited action for Manchester City this season, making just one seven-minute appearance in the League Cup against Huddersfield.
The England international, 30, has struggled for regular playing time since his £42 million transfer from Leeds United in 2022. He spent parts of the 2023/24 season on loan at West Ham United and the 2024/25 campaign at Ipswich Town.
Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder aims to bolster his central midfield options, which have been affected by injuries. Phillips is reportedly nearing full fitness after a recent injury. Manchester City is expected to cover a significant portion of his wages for the loan period.
