Slot labels current season 'toughest by a mile'

Football

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has described the current campaign as his most challenging managerial season to date.

Arne Slot, Liverpool's manager, has stated this season is the toughest of his career "by a mile". He admitted his side are not performing to the club's expected standards. Slot revealed he had never previously lost two consecutive matches until this campaign.

Liverpool currently sit sixth in the Premier League table with 39 points after 25 games. Their Premier League title defence has concluded, and they are now battling for a Champions League qualification spot. The Reds are five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and four points adrift of Chelsea in fifth.

Securing Champions League football would make the season "acceptable" for Slot, who acknowledged that missing out would be "unacceptable". The squad has faced injury issues despite a significant summer transfer spend. Liverpool lost 1-2 to Manchester City in their last fixture and will play Sunderland on Wednesday.
