West Ham United has agreed a deal to sell Brazil international Lucas Paqueta to his former club Flamengo. The transfer fee is reported to be €42 million, equivalent to £36 million, according to football journalist Fabrizio Romano. Paqueta, 28, joined West Ham in 2022 from French side Lyon, having also played for AC Milan in Italy.
The attacking midfielder had expressed a strong desire to return to his native Brazil. He was recently omitted from West Ham squads due to the ongoing transfer discussions. Although West Ham initially wished for Paqueta to remain on loan for the rest of the season, the player pushed for an immediate move. This move represents a significant acquisition for Flamengo, with reports suggesting it is a record transfer fee for a Brazilian Serie A club. The Brazilian transfer window remains open until March.
