Wigan Athletic have dismissed manager Ryan Lowe following a heavy defeat, leaving the club in the League One relegation zone.

Wigan Athletic sacked head coach Ryan Lowe on Saturday, 7 February 2026, after 11 months in charge. The dismissal followed a comprehensive 6-1 defeat away to Peterborough United in League One. This result left the Latics in the League One relegation zone, occupying 22nd position in the table.

Lowe, who was appointed on 12 March 2025, oversaw a period of struggle for the club. Wigan had secured only one victory in their last 10 League One fixtures. The team was also enduring a seven-game winless run in the league at the time of his departure.

The club confirmed that Glenn Whelan and Graham Barrow will assume control of first-team duties on an interim basis. Wigan Athletic stated it would work swiftly to identify and appoint a new head coach.
